David Erik Peterson is a proud member of AEA and AGMA and holds music degrees from SFSU and WVU. He recently moved back to LA after a decade in the SF Bay Area where he sang bass with the SF Symphony Chorus and Cappella SF, played percussion with Gamelan X, and was the Music Director for Piccola Carolers.
David has played Jesus and Judas in productions of Jesus Christ Superstar, was the bass section representative to the Hollywood Master Chorale, and fronted the progressive rock band Pattern Interrupt. In musical theater, most recently he played the role of Dennis in Rock of Ages with Pacific Coast Repertory Theatre in Pleasanton, CA and the role of Berger in HAiR at San Francisco’s Great Star Theater. David created and sings bass in the Wine & Cheese Messiah, an annual one-on-a-part Handel’s Messiah. He originated the roles of Jim Jones in Heaven Down Here, Jack Kerouac in Ginsberg in Song, and Darko in How to Survive the Apocalypse: a Burning Opera. He currently sings with the Meistersingers, Nova Vocal Ensemble, the Goode Time Carolers, and the St. Augustine-by-the-Sea Chamber Singers. Looking forward, he plans to continue to perform in musicals, start a vocal studio and a rock’n’roll band, sing with the LA Master Chorale, build a voiceover business and hot sauce empire, get good at surfing, and raise a family. He’d like to thank his beautiful fiancee Nashua for her love and support.
Anthony Moresi appeared at CSUN 2007-2010 in the roles: Mr. Page The Merry Wives of Windsor (Nicolai), Le Fauteuil L’enfant et les sortilèges (Ravel), il notaio Gianni Schicchi (Puccini) and Dottor Bartolo Le Nozze di Figaro (Mozart) where he earned a Bachelor of Music, Vocal Performance studying with Dr. David Sannerud. Sang in the Bear Valley Music Festival 2007 Dr. Cajus in The Merry Wives of Windsor. Summer of 2008 he studied at the American Institute of Musical Studies in Graz, Austria, and performed with the AIMS orchestra in Graz, Freiburg, and Frohnleiten. At Moorpark College earned Associate of Arts degrees in Vocal Music Performance and Music Theory, studying with John Glenn Paton. In 2009 was the bass soloist for Moorpark College Symphony Orchestra’s presentation of the complete Handel’s Messiah.
Tony has most recently appeared exclusively in Gilbert and Sullivan operas over the past decade, credits include Samuel, Pirate’s of Penzance (2018) Florian, Princess Ida (2018), Antonio in The Gondoliers (2017), Sir Marmaduke Poindexter, The Sorcerer (2016), Dr. John Tannhauser in The Grand Duke (2012), Yeoman #2 in Yeoman of the Guard and as the Sergeant of Police in The Pirates of Penzance here at the Hillcrest Center for the Arts. He is thrilled to be part of the Arete Vocal Ensemble at Cal Lutheran and a member of the Los Robles Master Choral in the Conejo Valley.
Elizabeth Hoover has been singing choral music since the age of 8, performing in school, community, and professional choirs. She received her Bachelor’s degree with a minor in vocal studies at UCSB, where she performed with the UCSB Collegiate Chorale and three other University ensembles. After receiving her teaching credential, she lived in Los Angeles, where she was a member of the William Hall Chorale and the Los Angeles Master Chorale, and was a soloist with various temples.
After moving to Ventura, she joined Quire of Voices, an early music ensemble in Santa Barbara, and enjoyed many summers of touring in Eastern and Western Europe, with enthusiastic audiences in Russia, Prague, Budapest, and elsewhere. She enjoys singing with the amazing musicians in Areté, as well as the opportunity to perform choral works with the New West Symphony.
Soprano Penny Brady works as a Section Leader at Hollywood United Methodist Church, and is an occasional guest director at various local churches. She previously sang with Angeles Chorale, Santa Barbara Choral Society, Los Robles Master Chorale, and their small group, Eko. She holds a B.A. in Voice, a Single Subject Music Credential, a Master’s Degree in Education, and three additional teaching credentials. She currently teaches in the Conejo Valley.
Ms. Brady’s varied career includes many years as a session singer, extensive solo work in large churches, directing adult choirs, ensembles, and children’s choirs, and teaching voice. She taught as a college adjunct, recorded guide vocals for several choirs, and enjoyed playing Mary in the Glory of Easter at the former Crystal Cathedral. Penny is a published songwriter, and has worked as a music copyist and proofreader. She is always grateful to be singing.
Scott Brodie is a native Southern Californian who has been involved in the local music and theatre community for most of his life. Scott started singing in church at a very young age and continued his love of music studying at California Lutheran University where he received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Vocal Performance.
Scott has appeared as a soloist in a variety of concerts ranging from musical theatre to classical and opera. He has also performed in many musical theatre productions including South Pacific, West Side Story, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Sound of Music, the premiere of The Gentleman Cole, and The New Utah, where he can be heard on the cast recording.
Scott feels very fortunate to be one of the founding members of Areté and enjoys singing with such a talented and diverse group of artists. Scott recently returned to CLU where he completed his MBA. When he is not performing, Scott enjoys playing ice hockey and spending time with his wife Roberta and their 10-year-old son Alex.
Peter Carlson is delighted to be singing with the musicians of Areté. Influential teachers in his training as a lyric tenor include Florence Avery at Wheaton College and Donald Hoiness at St. Olaf College. He has sung with choirs at both schools, as well as with such influential musical organizations as the Chicago Gay Men’s Chorus, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra Chorus, and both The Coventry Choir and the Renaissance Singers of All Saints Episcopal Church in Pasadena, the largest Episcopal church west of the Mississippi.
Peter has sung both as a soloist and choir member, and has performed in operas and musicals in venues across the United States.
International soprano Euna Cho, recent member of Areté, is also a member of the Los Robles Master Chorale. Ms. Cho has performed in the Bach-Fest in New York, was a guest soloist for the 40th Martin Luther King, Jr. observance at the Convention Center in New York which was nationally televised, and was a soloist for many church choruses in Seoul, Korea. Before moving to the United States, Euna was an assistant for the University Opera Institute in Seoul. Ms. Cho obtained her B.S. in Vocal Performance from Seoul National University in Korea.
Kevin Droney is proud to be a member of Areté Vocal Ensemble since its inception. He is also a longtime member of the Los Robles Master Chorale and takes great pleasure in his long association with the New West Symphony Orchestra and Chorus. Kevin has been privileged to perform many of the world’s great choral masterpieces directed by renowned conductors such as Roger Wagner, Vance George, Sir David Wilcocks and Paul Salamunovich, and was part of a memorable concert of Mozart’sMass in Cand Rutter’sRequiem, directed by John Rutter. Kevin recently participated as a chorister in two performances of Verdi’s Requiem at the Hollywood Bowl with the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the Los Angeles Master Chorale, directed by Gustavo Dudamel. A recording of the concert is now available on DVD.
Kevin has sung abroad, performing at venues such as London’s St. Martin in the Fields (Noon Concert Series), Coventry Cathedral (The Church Music Festival directed by Sir David Wilcocks), Prague’s Dvorak Hall (with the Radio Prague Symphony Orchestra), and Leipzig’s Gwanthaus (American Church Music Festival), to name just a few. His favorite moment: participating with a guest choir during the Sunday high mass at Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris.
Kevin has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Santa Clara University and a Master of Fine Arts from UCLA. He’s taught advanced screen writing courses at California State University, Northridge, and has lectured at USC’s Institute of Creative Technologies. He makes his living as a screen and television writer, is currently working on a fifth novel manuscript, and spends his spare time in the back yard observing wild birds, those most musical of beings. He lives in Ventura County, California with his wife Marianne, also a member of Areté.
Marianne Droney started singing in the chorus when she was in third grade and, aside from a brief hiatus in the late eighties, hasn’t stopped since. An accomplished alto vocalist with over twenty five years experience performing with community, church, and chamber chorales, she is delighted to have been a member of Areté since its inception in 2009.
She has previously sung in ensembles such as the San Fernando Valley Master Chorale, the Premiere Chamber Chorale, and the CSUN Women’s Chorus. Currently she is also a member of the Los Robles Master Chorale, which she joined in 1998, and the New West Symphony Chorus.
She has enjoyed performing the great choral masterworks such as the Verdi Requiem, Bach’s Mass in B Minor, and the Brahms Liebeslieder Waltzes, as well as contemporary works by David Lang, Morten Lauridsen, and Shawn Kirchner. Her experience as a chorister has led her to performances in cities as diverse as Honolulu, New York City, and Helsinki. Best of all, choral music introduced her to the love of her life, her husband Kevin.
Baritone Kyungtae Kim, educated in South Korea, also sings with the Los Angeles Master Chorale, the Sonorous Singers and is the choir conductor at the Korean Sae Han Presbyterian Church.
